Unconditional Love Pet Rescue

Luke, Leia, Lolita and Lincoln were born on June 1, 2014. It was a home birth! Their mom, Sugar, had been surrendered to our local humane society and was clearly about a month pregnant. Sugar is some sort of terrier – similar to a Cairn, like Toto from “The Wizard of Oz” – and is about 15 pounds. 

The humane society knew that Unconditional Love Pet Rescue (ULPR) would be a better environment for a pregnant mom and for the care of newborns, so they contacted us immediately. We got her placed into a foster home with a ULPR volunteer right away! She had her pups a few weeks later surrounded by her foster family and another ULPR volunteer who is also a trained Veterinary Technician. 

The pups are not food aggressive at all nor do they over-eat. We can leave out a bowl of Purina ProPlan dry puppy food and they only eat when hungry… it can have kibble in it for hours. The pups have all had their puppy shots including bordetella. They are used to having a bath and having their nails trimmed. They squirm a bit but are well behaved. We hope to have them used to a leash and “sitting” before the go to their forever homes. 

They all enjoy playtime outside in the outside fenced area on the patio. All are currently pee-pad trained and very social having been raised in a private home with 3 other dogs (including their mom) and a cat, and lots of visitors.

Lincoln:  We never expected him to become the beauty of the bunch.  I know women who pay hundreds of dollars to get the highlights in their hair that he has in his coat - milk chocolate tipped in silver!  His sad little face hides a loving playful spirit. At this stage his ears have a tendency to flop backwards, giving him a goofy and endearing look. We think as he gets older they may start standing straight up like his Mom’s. He loves his belly scratched and will curl up on your lap for a back rub.  This is one sweet little boy! At 10 weeks he’s now 6 pounds; we’re guessing he’ll end up in the 15-20 lb. range.
